Labelling of chemicals as an instrument ensuring chemical safety

Summary

In connection with the principles of labelling packaging of all chemicals classified as hazardous, including also mixtures related, among others, to household chemicals, which have been binding since 1 June 2015 in accordance with the regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 of the European Parliament (CLP), the paper presents legal aspects of chemical safety concerning labelling of chemical substances. The principles of CLP labelling are outlined in the context of the packaging informative function for the chemical sector products which is to ensure its safe use and transport. The paper includes also entrepreneurs’ remarks concerning the new labelling system. It is expected that fulfilling the REACH and CLP system requirements will improve protection of human health and the environment as well as the free movement of goods by introducing a harmonised system of hazard information of chemicals which would be widely understandable throughout the EU.
