Computation of the partition coefficient of anionic and amphotheric surfactants between n-octanol and water

In this work we describe in details the computation method for prediction of the numerical values of logarithm of the partition coefficient (log KO/W) between n-octanol and water for various groups of anionic and amphotheric surfactants. This method proposed by Leo and Hansch for anionic and nonionic surfactants was extended also for amphotheric surfactants using some corrections originally proposed by Roberts et al. for cationic surfactants.  In this work we compare the values of the log KO/W coefficient computed for anionic and amphotheric surfactants with the experimental data published in literature. We have found that the computation method used in this work for both anionic and amphotheric surfactants leads to the numerical values of the log KO/W coefficient being in a very good agreement with the corresponding experimental values.
