Novel food derived from plants – legal aspects and perspectives development

In recent years plants continue to be an important source of components beneficial for human health. The use of natural ingredients seem to be important to reduce chronic diseases incidence. Recently huge interest has been focused on medicinal plants, which are becoming the ingredient of novel foods. This paper deals with few segments of novel food, with the main focus on food derived from plants (Salvia hispanica L., Morinda Citrifolia), phytosterols and phytostanols, with review of legal aspects and perspectives development of novel food products.
