Energy efficiency and eco-design in the European Union legislation for the quality improvement of household electric devices

The article presents the quality problem regarding limited durability and reparability of household electric devices in context of changes proposed by European Union in new ecodesign regulations.  Detailed requirements for newly introduced electric household products as: refrigerators, washing machines and washer dryers, dish washers, electronic displays, light sources, external power supliers, electric motors, refrigerators with a direct sales function, power transformers, welding equipment, are given. By the way, the energy efficiency and ecodesign strategies are explained. In addition, as opposed to the practice discussed, so-called planned obsolescence strategy is presented, which seems to be one of the main culprit of product quality problems.
