YOUNG CONSUMER ON THE MARKET OF FOOD – THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND PREFERENCES TOWARDS NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION

Summary:

The objective of this study was to evaluate nutrition knowledge and consumer use of nutritional food labels, and to determine whether the nutritional information on food packages affects the consumers’ eating habits and contributes to promoting a healthy lifestyle. The research was carried out with use of questionnaire fulfiled by 150 young onsumers. The statistical analysis was performed using the χ2 test. A p-value of 0.05 was used as threshold for statistical significance. An analysis of survey results revealed strong interest of the nutritional information found on the labels of food products by young consumers. The young respondents declared an interest in getting additional nformation concerning the nutriational value of food products. As shown by the answers given by the surveyed ubjects, nutritional information on food labels supported their purchase decisions and affected consumer behaviors. esides young consumer education influences their attitudes towards nutritional facts labels and help themunderstand  he information printed on food packaging.
